Saturday rambles👩🏼‍💻

My mom and stepdad are visiting. They’ve been here since Wednesday. My heart feels full. There have been moments in the past couple years when I was unsure if this would be possible. It’s a long story and one I’m not quite ready to share, but in short, my mom had an accident and we’ve been trying to find our way to our new normal ever since. But right now, in this moment, my heart is so incredibly full. Watching my mom, aka “Tuni” with Lennox is such an incredible gift. They talk and laugh. They sing songs and read books. I watch my mom enjoying Lennox and his antics and there’s really nothing quite like it. Just now Tuni told Lennox she pushed the funny button on him this morning because he’s being so silly. It’s just cute. And watching the two of them is something I will never take for granted. Thank you, God for my family.

The wrinkle police👮🏻‍♀️

I use bad language here so if you are going to be offended I would stop reading now…

Aging happens to everyone right? Or am I fucking crazy?? Every day we are ALL getting a little bit older and our faces are losing collagen and wrinkles are going to happen!! Do I live in an alternate fucking universe where some people think just because you happen to be on TV and in the public eye that you should hide the natural aging process? Or that wrinkles shouldn’t happen? Have I done Botox? Hell yes I have! And I love it! But my job also requires me to be able to move my face. Those lines that you see are from A LIFETIME of experiences – good, sad, extraordinary, debilitating, painful, glorifying, happy, exhilarating, you get my point. They are from endless tears of mourning the deaths of loved ones. They are from laughing my ass off at John Ritter and his same jokes day after day… Gee, thanks John. They are from seven years of trying to conceive and ultimately resigning to the fact that in-vitro was our path. They are from laughing and being silly and goofy with my son, who also happens to be one of the funniest people I know. They’re from over thinking and analyzing stupid shit! They’re from sleeping on my side and smooshing my face because I can’t fucking seem to stay still and lie on my back for a whole nights rest. Which brings me to sleep. You get wrinkles from not getting enough rest and I happen to be a pretty shitty sleeper. AND I stay up too late!

If I’m going to use this blog as a positive platform, I want to talk about the real shit. We all get fucking wrinkles! I’m sorry, I don’t want to be addicted to plastic surgery and become terrified of the aging process. Does getting older scare the shit out of me?! You bet it does! But I’m trying my best to age gracefully and enjoy this fucking ride. Am I going to do Botox again at some point? Yes! I am! The reason I’m even taking the time to write this is I’m so sick of women bashing women, mom shaming, the wrinkle police… I would love to see females truly supporting each other and lifting each other up. Sure, my rant is about wrinkles and it’s vain and whatever. But this woman’s comment was unnecessary and it was mean spirited and I don’t want to deal with that shit. The world can be cruel enough, why would you intentionally want to say something unkind? When I comment on posts I always say something kind and supportive. I would never want to contribute any negativity. I know I’m going off on a bunch of tangents, but all these thoughts I’m spewing are coming from a place of love.

I’ll wrap this up by saying this- What if we take a moment to actually look in the mirror and see someone beautiful looking back?? Look without judgement. I know, that’s a tough one sometimes, but try and see what’s below the surface whether there are wrinkles or not. Whether there’s a huge zit on the tip of our nose or perfect porcelain skin. Our Imperfections are what make us unique! Imperfection is perfect. Dammit!

Have you ever had moments in your life where you’ve met someone and it feels like you’ve known them before? There’s a familiarity and a sense of comfort that doesn’t quite make sense because you’ve just met, but on the other hand it makes perfect sense. I can look back on times in my life where situations like this have happened and I’m still dumbfounded by it.

Well, this explains exactly how I felt when I met- in person, my incredibly talented interior designer and now friend, Cynthia Soda, of Soda Pop Design Inc. Months ago I randomly came across Cynthia’s Instagram page, @csodapop (follow her!) and instantly FELL IN LOVE! We’ve been doing all kinds of renovations to our home, so I’ve been browsing instagram for inspiration! Since posting a comment on Cynthia’s page a few months ago, (this kitchen was ) not only do I have the most beautiful plans for our kitchen remodel, but I have a good friend now, too. Coincidence? Right place, right time? Serendipity? Who knows? All I know is I want to stay open to the people the Universe (ya, I said Universe) drops into my life, because I could’ve missed out on this wonderful partnership and friendship if I was closed off.

… So go and check out my TALENTED FRIEND and her design skillzzzzz HERE. She blows me away!! Sharing some fun photos Cynthia and I took right before she left to go back home to Canada. It was emotional!! She didn’t want to leave and I didn’t want her to leave!! But she’ll be back soon.

Healthy New Year goals!

For me, the holidays are about two things: family and food! This year, and as always, I stuffed myself with a delicious Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner!! I don’t know about you, but I always struggle between cooking the healthiest meal, or the yummiest. It’s definitely a balance. Just a boy and his camera 📸

There are so many amazing firsts with babies. First laugh, first time they rollover, first time they sit, stand and then walk. First time they say mama and dada. All these first make your heart melt… Sure this isn’t a real camera, and my baby boy is not taking pictures, but he looks through the eyehole and he laughs and is having an amazing time! This is a fun first for us. Watching Lennox explore his surroundings is fascinating. This may not be a milestone and it’s not the first time he kicked the soccer ball, but its something I will never forget. I love this little tiger. He makes me feel more and more like a fierce mama every day.

Underwood Farms🌽🍅🐖🐑🍁🌾

Well, we got off onto a rocky start. Lennox lost it while we were waiting for the pig races. As you can see from my face I had no clue why he was freaking out… And neither did Kacy, lol! Just smiling away! Ha. Once the cute little pigs started running around, Len was entranced. “Piggies!” Over and over. It was so sweet. We made our way to the delicious food extravaganza and Kacy and I had amazing street tacos! Yummm. Len loves his quesadilla with “hidden” chicken! Kids gotten pickier these days… They had a lovely farmers market and I devoured a box of cherry tomatoes. Not washed or anything. Ha. Still delicious! We saw every kind of animal and Lennox was literally in hog heaven! This coming from a kid who started singing Old MacDonald when he was just over a year old He loves his animals! And the grand finale was picking pumpkins or as Lennox would say, “punkins.” He still talks about his punkins. One is still on the porch! So even though Halloween is over, I wanted to share our experience at Underwood Farms as it’s the all around Fall experience. I truly hope you have a special Fall and a Happy Thanksgiving with your loved ones! May you enjoy a ton of “punkin” pie!

The joys of brushing a toddler’s pearly whites 🤪

Oh the joys of bushing a toddler’s pearly whites! I have to say Lennox is “pretty” cooperative but sometimes he flat out says, “no!” Which is funny because I’m brushing his teeth whether he agrees or not and unfortunately his health is more important to me than simply acquiescing and making him happy for the moment. I learned from the dentist how important it is to brush our babies teeth at the minimum once a day. But she prefers twice. I really fight for the twice a day!! I go for the first right before nap, as the dentist said the most important times are before sleeping. And then obviously before bed. I have a couple tricks up my sleeve that I’d love to share and if you have any please comment below. Because let’s face it, we all need all the support, advice and “tricks” we can get!

• I sing to Lennox. There’s a cute toothbrush song we heard on Raffi Radio and I can’t remember all of it but part of the song goes like this-

When I wake up in the morning and it’s a quarter to one, and I’m looking to have a little fun, I brush my teeth. Then you make a brushing sound!!! Chhhh Chhhh Chhh Chhh ChhhhChhChhChh! When I wake up in the morning and its a quarter to two…. And so on…. He loves it! LOL<< strong>I pretend to struggle. When Len bites down on the toothbrush I make it seem like it’s really hard to pull the toothbrush out of his mouth and I’m struggling. He laughs and laughs! Then his mouth is open and I can get to those chompers!

• I give him a book. Might not work for all kids but he’s a book worm and if he has a book in his hands he’s usually happy.

• I let him brush his teeth for a bit. After he’s some I go in for the real cleaning.

A book is always a necessity with this little bookworm. And it’s actually a great distraction too!

I give Len the toothbrush so he learns how to do it himself, but also so he feels in control of the process somewhat..

Then Lennox tells me he’s done, and no more brushing!

This little family of mine… As Thanksgiving draws near, I tend to get sentimental and reflective There’s just something about the holidays that puts things into perspective for me and helps to put me in check. When I think of my family my heart swells. I look at Lennox and my husband and realize what my purpose is here. Sure some days are harder than others and I question a lot of things, oh my goodness do I question! But when I finally take a deep breath and center myself, I am able to think clearly and realize just how blessed I am. Worrying about the petty stuff is just too difficult. I’m done. I’m giving that up. Do you want to give it up with me? I just want to get back to basics- being grateful for my loved ones and realizing my purpose. Wishing you a happy “almost” Thanksgiving… One week away!!!
